As you are likely aware our Federal Leader Jack Layton has passed away. He died peacefully at his home in Toronto surrounded by family and friends. People across the country have been expressing their deepest condolences to his wife Olivia, his family, his friends, and his colleagues.
It feels as though Canada has lost its best friend and Canadians have lost their most trusted ally and representative.
Despite our grief and because of it The Brant NDP will be holding a memorial event at our office this Wednesday August 24th at 8:00 pm. We are asking those who can, to gather with us for a public vigil in honour of Jack. All are welcome.
Also note: We will have our doors open at 230 Murray Street from 10 am – 9 pm, Wednesday to Friday for anyone who would like to sign our book of condolences. That book will be delivered to Jack Layton’s family at his state funeral to be held in Toronto on Saturday.
Come down for a minute or for the day, to share your memories, your thoughts, your optimism, and your hope as we celebrate Jack’s life and his positive impact on our country and our community.
“My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful, and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.”
Jack Layton – August 20th, 2011
