Rising unemployment in Brantford-Brant just latest symptom of Stephen Harper’s lost decade.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BRANTFORD – New Democrat candidate Marc Laferriere (Brantford – Brant) blasted Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the failure of his economic plan as Statistics Canada reported 1,000 jobs lost in Brantford in the last six months.
“Brantford residents are paying the price for the Conservatives’ mismanagement with a thousand jobs lost in just the last six months,” said Laferriere. “This has been Canada’s lost decade – 10 years of job losses, crumbling infrastructure and tax breaks for the wealthy with Brantford families paying the price.”
New jobs figures from Statistics Canada show 1,000 jobs have been lost in Brantford in the last six months. The report also confirms 3,800 manufacturing jobs have disappeared in the city under Stephen Harper’s watch.
“After ten years, Stephen Harper’s plan just isn’t working. Canadians are working harder than ever, incomes are flat-lining and household debt is rising,” said Laferriere. “Stephen Harper unconditionally handed tens of billions of dollars in tax breaks to large corporations as 400,000 well-payed manufacturing jobs disappeared.”
Tom Mulcair’s plan to grow the economy includes supporting small businesses, kick-starting Canada’s manufacturing sector; and investing in infrastructure. That’s why more and more Canadians are putting their trust in Tom Mulcair’s NDP to deliver the quality jobs that middle-class families need. Tom Mulcair has a plan and is ready to get the job done.
